About Us

PattyI am Patty Bradley-Diehl, a professional web developer living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Abbey Lane Web Solutions is my freelance web development company. Involved with the World Wide Web since the mid-nineties, I returned to school in the fall of 2000 to pursue a formal education in web development at my local community college (WCC) in the Internet Professional Program (INP). In the spring of 2002 I realized my goal of becoming a professional web developer at the University of Michigan by becoming the Web Administrator for the UM School of Public Health. I later returned to the WCC INP to teach web coding. As at ease speaking in front of an audience as I am sitting at a keyboard, I teach various workshops and seminars throughout the year on XHTML, CSS, search engine optimization and making websites accessible to the disabled.

I am enthused about the current trend toward web sites that thrive on user-generated content (blogs, social tagging sites, etc.). I believe that the web was created by and for people, not profit. If it's not fun, we're doing something wrong.

Web development is my passion. To me, a successful site must not only be highly usable, but meet accessibility requirements and be compliant with current web standards. I pride myself on writing valid XHTML and CSS. I am stimulated by the challenge of making sites render well in different mediums such as in print and on mobile devices. But probably our biggest web passion is creating database-driven web applications that make people's lives better.
